IP in relationshIPs

Any Game Of Thrones fans in the house? I came out of the series with a favorite character AND a favorite line. Tyrion Lannister (for being a Lannister) was a lovable, loyal creature who was — unlike the rest of his family — able to build relationships across stubborn leaders residing in complicated houses. While many epic proclamations were sprayed throughout the eight seasons, Tyrion’s quote that stood my test of time went as followed:

“I drink and I know things”.

That’s a long way to go for a set up; but here’s what I know when it comes to constructing relationships…

Whether we know it or not, we’re all baking our IP into relationshIPs.

The way you connect with others (and how you make them feel) is your true IP.

Where relationships are strong, the IP is strong.
Where relationships are weak, the IP is weak.

How do you know if you’re in a strong vs weak relationship? Helen Keller said it right:

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even heard, but must be felt.”

Taking the time to make someone feel your genuineness is the IP multiplier. And, when fear gets in the way, that “what’s in it for me” mentality not only jumps to the front of the line but weakens our IP. While you may not feel that, others sure can.

As you bake your IP into your relationships, remember Churchill’s… “You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give.”

The strongest IP brings all the feels.
