ThanksTaking
Hello, weekend. I hope everyone has been enjoying their company, their naps, and their morning leftovers!
With Thanksgiving now behind us, and with the holiday season before us, I like to call this short 96-hour period, “ThanksTaking”.
Now, the idea is not what it seems.
I am “pro-giving” and I try to use my superpowers to give where I can. See my company Sock Problems where we give 25% of every single sock purchase back to those partners who are truly the experts in socking problems.
But I also think “we the people” need to turn our attention to a little inward “taking”.
With that, my hope is that you:
Take time for yourself today
Take a minute to appreciate those loved ones who you can still hug, call or create memories with
Take a moment to send love to those who are no longer on this planet but are alive in our minds
Take yourself to the movies and see exactly what you want to see
Take the dog(s) for a longer walk than usual and let them soak in all the smells
Take on a scary, juicy fear — the one you’ve been putting off
Take over a chore a loved one usually gets stuck with — even if its only for a day
Take five minutes to send 5 texts to people you root for, miss or care about
Take up something new like ballroom dancing, an introductory yoga class or a new board game (with friends or family)
Take on take-out; tonight’s the night to surely do it. And if you do so…
Take it upon yourself to dish out a bigger tip — delivering food can be a thankless job where many service folks don’t get much love or a break
Take an impromptu road trip without locking in a desired destination
Take a self-talk time out; your mind surely needs that break
Take five from your phone. This is the perfect weekend for a Screenbatical
Take time to design out your 2024 goals now. Next year is just around December’s corner
Take down a sunset, or a sunrise. Do so with your sun, if you’ve been gifted that luxury
Take a moment to thank yourself for making all those big AND little decisions you have made. Without them, you truly wouldn’t be you.
Take a minute to say “thank you” to movie ushers, flight attendants, and any soul working Black Friday weekend — it’s a tough slog for almost all those working
Take over the couch, the tv, the blankets, the pillows all with the intent of taking another nap
Take a break from social media. Yes, LinkedIN IS a social network. Do so starting in 5…4…3…2…1…
